Don't miss our TWO fun July celebrations!
AN "OLD FASHIONED" INDEPENDANCE DAY
Wednesday July 4th
When Independance Day falls on a Wednesday it's always a difficult decision about when to celebrate. With the encouragement of the folks at the Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce, Rich Harvey, John Willis, Denise Wilk and Leslie Seaman, we decided to go all out and have TWO celebrations! Responding to feedback from certain long-time residents, who say they've missed some of the old-fashioned style 4th of July with demos of traditional skills and carnival games, we've chosen to make this the day! The Village Green will be hoppin' during the afternoon of Wednesday July 4th with game booths, a cake walk, a dunk tank, feats of strength and demonstrations in blacksmithing, drag sawing, pole climbing, shake making and etc. Fireworks go off that night from Indian Island (located in the bay at Waterfront Part in Eastsound) so plan your days to include BOTH Wednesday the 4th and Saturday the 7th when we will hold our regular annual Historical Day Fair & Parade (parade sponsored by the Orcas Chamber of Commerce).
HISTORICAL DAY FAIR & PARADE ~
Saturday JULY 7TH
Three days later, on Saturday July 7th, our annual Historical Day Fair will kick off at 10am on the Village Green with both local and visiting vendors including a wide variety of food offerings, live music on the big stage, community non-profit booths, uniquely crafted items and more. The regular Farmer's Market will still take place at the north side of the Village Green. The theme for this year's parade is "Orcas Farming & Agriculture" and Orcas Museum will, as usual, be present with our float featuring Mr. Antiquus, our famous bison, who is also running for mayor of Eastsound (but that's another story!). We will also run our popular Pie Booth facing the street, this year featuring French country frozen lemon treats while they last. Arrangements to offer donations of pies and other goodies may be made by calling the museum at 376-4849 on any weekday between 11am and 4pm. This event is one of our biggest fundraisers for Orcas Museum, so come enjoy the fun and support OIHM!ANTIQUES EVALUATION FAIR ~ Sunday Aug. 5th
Mark your calendars for Sunday afternoon August 5th at the Orcas Island Grange Hall for the second Antiques Evaluation Fair sponsored by Orcas Museum. Please stay tuned for further details on admission prices and antiques categories, as well as a rundown on the expert appraisal staff who will be on hand that day to take a look at your (hopefully!) valuable items. We are not quite "Antiques Road Show" --- there will be no television cameras! --- but our visiting expert appraisers will be happy to assist you. Make a mental list now for what you'd like to bring!
